So, get ready to unlock an enriching start to every new day!

Understanding the Importance of Morning Dua

Dua After Waking Up in the Morning

Morning Dua is an essential part of every devout Muslim’s life. It is more than just a religious chant; it contains moral teachings that instill values such as gratitude, humility, and remembering Allah SWT’s infinite mercy.

These supplications challenge our spiritual complacency as they foster inner strength and discipline.

Furthermore, reciting the Morning Dua has been directly linked to reaping benefits other than spiritual upliftment. For example, a hadith states that remembering Allah SWT, performing ablution, and praying Fajr prayer loosens the knots tied by Satan around one’s neck.  Sahih al-Bukhari 3269

Additionally, other hadiths highlight that angels observe the Muslims reciting the Quran during the Fajr prayer:

The Messenger of Allah SWT recited: And recite the Qur’an during the Fajr. Verily, the recitation of the Qur’an during Fajr is ever witnessed.” He said: “It is witnessed by the angels of the night and the day.” Sunan Ibn Majah 670

The Best Dua After Waking Up in the Morning

The Best Dua After Waking Up in the Morning

Waking up in the morning is essential to any Muslim’s life. It’s a time to refresh, renew, and thank Allah SWT for blessing a new day. The best Dua for waking up in the morning can be found in Hadith Abu Dawood (5049), where it says:

“Upon awakening, one should say,

Transliteration

“Alhamdulillahil-lazi ahyana ba’da ma amatana wa ilaihin-nushoor “

Translation:

“Praise be to Allah SWT who gave us life after he made us die and to him we will return.” Al-Adab Al-Mufrad

Sleep is considered a mild form of death because when you sleep, your soul leaves your body and returns when you wake up. Sometimes Allah SWT does not allow the soul to enter the body again, which is why we say this Dua to thank Allah SWT for sending the soul back to us and giving us another chance to live and do good InshAllah. Allah SWT says in the Quran:

Allāh takes the souls at the time of their death, and those that do not die [He takes] during their sleep. Then, He keeps those for which He has decreed death and releases the others for a specified term. Indeed these are signs of people who give thought. 39:42

The purpose of the Dua is to understand its profound meaning as well as to recite it. By saying these words upon waking each day, you are humbled before Allah SWT and acknowledge His power over all things, including life and death.

Duas like this were practiced religiously by Prophet Muhammed PBUH, giving them added significance. So, engaging in this daily practice benefits both your spiritual well-being and your physical health.

The Wisdom Behind the Dua After Waking Up

The Wisdom Behind the Dua After Waking Up

The wisdom embedded in the Dua after awakening is more than just words. It is a powerful way to begin the day, aligning our hearts and minds with gratitude, love, and humility toward Allah SWT.

This Dua not only clears the way for spiritual enlightenment but also unties any knots that Satan may have tied around a person’s neck while sleeping. This ritual expresses gratitude for being given another day of life.

It also includes praising Allah SWT and seeking His forgiveness from the first light of dawn. This morning ritual initiates a pure connection with the divine creator, transcending physical realms.

Our Prophet (PBUH) emphasized its significance, indicating that those who go through their days without acknowledging Allah SWT’s mercy are far from his protection and guidance.

As Muslims, we are obligated to uphold these traditions to continue our spiritual and moral growth daily.

Rituals, Manners, and Sunnahs After Waking Up

Rituals, Manners, and Sunnahs After Waking Up

After waking up, it is essential to follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by performing certain rituals and manners, such as reciting the Dua when leaving the bed, washing hands and face, brushing teeth, reciting morning supplications, and beginning with Fajr prayer.

According to a hadith, Satan ties three knots on your neck while you are sleeping; waking up and remembering Allah SWT unties one knot, while performing ablution loosens another. All remaining knots are dispelled by the act of praying Fajr, leaving you energetic and cheerful.

“During your sleep, Satan knots three knots at the back of the head of each of you, and he breathes the following words at each knot, ‘The night is long, so keep on sleeping,’ If that person wakes up and celebrates the praises of Allah SWT, then one knot is undone, and when he performs ablution the second knot is undone, and when he prays, all the knots are undone, and he gets up in the morning lively and in good spirits. Otherwise, he gets up in low spirits and lethargic.”

Sahih al-Bukhari 3269

In the next sections, we will describe some steps to help you untie these knots!

Recite the Dua as Soon as You Wake Up

As mentioned above, the Dua that Prophet Muhammad PBUH used to recite every morning after waking up is one that you should try to recite and post somewhere on the wall where you can see it easily.

Perform Wudu

For untying the second knot, it’s necessary for you to make wudu, and make sure you put water in your nose properly as Prophet Muhammad PBUH said:

“If anyone of you rouses from sleep and performs the ablution, he should wash his nose by putting water in it and then blowing it out thrice because Satan has stayed in the upper part of his nose all the night.” Sahih al-Bukhari 3295

Use Miswak if Possible

Using Miswak is one of the most dearest deeds to the Prophet Muhammad PBUH.  He said:

“Were I not afraid that it would be hard on my followers, I would order them to use the siwak (as obligatory, for cleaning the teeth).” Sahih al-Bukhari 7240

Prophet Muhammad PBUH also said that:

`The siwak is cleansing to the mouth and pleasing to the Lord` Musnad Ahmad 7
